Financial Aid/Scholarships

While accreditation remains in progress, George Wythe University students are not yet eligible for Title IV funding options such as Pell Grants.  Students instead pursue financial assistance from private sources. These typically include family, private scholarship funds, grants and scholarships from employers. For students seeking financial aid beyond their local resources, we recommend the following options.

GWU Specific Scholarships

The following scholarships are offered exclusively to George Wythe University students. We express our appreciation to the individuals and organizations that fund and manage these scholarships.

Mission-Based Scholarships: These scholarships are tailored to assist those students who are most committed to the cause of liberty. The top award amounts are for full tuition. Other amounts are awarded commensurate with student qualifications. All awards are renewable annually for up to four years. Returning and prospective students are both eligible

The Matchlight Essay Scholarship: This is a $1,000 scholarship with $250 renewable per semester. It is open to all George Wythe University on-campus students.  (Essay deadline is December 21, 2016)

Private Scholarships

As a matter of policy, most private scholarships restrict eligibility to students attending accredited institutions. While George Wythe University continues its progress toward this end, the following organizations have chosen to approve an exception in advance for GWU students.

Joe Foss Institute: Nine scholarships are divided annually into three essay contests, each awarding a winner of $5,000, second place for $500 and third place for $250. Most recently a Video Scholarship contest has been added with the winner receiving a $10,000 scholarship, with second and third place receiving $1,000 and $500 respectively.  Scholarships are available at various times throughout the year.

Veterans of Foreign Wars: Over $3 million in educational scholarships and incentives are awarded through the VFW’s Voice of Democracy audio-essay competition, Patriot's Pen competition and Scout of the Year program.  Eligibility requirements differ depending on the scholarship competition.

The Freedom Library: A $1,000 scholarship is awarded twice each year at the conclusion of "The Freedom Philosophy" course offered through The Freedom Library.  Eligibility is based on course completion as well as an essay.

"It’s been the hardest thing I have ever done, and it’s been worth every hard read, every oral exam and every mentor meeting. The challenges that come with attaining this education pale in comparison to the discoveries."
