These letters should be sent from someone who knows you and can attest to your character, work ethic, academic preparation, etc. They can be from associates/supervisors at work, a former teacher, someone you have served with in a community organization, an ecclesiastical leader, a business partner, etc. Letters from parents, spouses and family members are not appropriate.

Please have these letters sent back to you for mailing with the other application materials. We recommend you ask your potential writers immediately for a recommendation once you decide to apply. Often these individuals are busy and may need some follow-up for reminders. Suggest a possible date for them to have it back to you. Waiting for these letters is often a cause for delay in submitting an application and missing deadlines, so act on them as a top priority.

    More Information

The creative sample is an opportunity for you to demonstrate an area of life where you have achieved excellence – our belief being that the characteristics and habits of excellence (discipline, hard work, perseverance, vision, etc.) go with us from one area of endeavor to another, such as academics. Submissions may range from art to science, landscaping to crafts, writing to performing. It can be anything from a personal or family project, a hobby, an avocation, your work, etc. You can send it in any format, i.e. DVD, CD, pictures (particularly for larger submissions that cannot be mailed), photocopies, an essay, a computer program etc.

A cover letter should accompany your sample. You can use this letter to provide any introduction or explanation you feel is appropriate. The purpose of the sample is to give us insight into who you are; your character and talents, your ability to stick to a subject, the kind of depth you are willing to pursue on a given topic. Be yourself! Be creative!
