Doctorate

Program Eligibility

There are two ways to meet the prerequisites to this program:

  • Postdoctoral Studies. Juris Doctorate or Ph.D. in a related field (law, political science, etc.). Submit all graduate transcripts (and dissertation if applicable) with application.
  • Doctoral Studies. Prerequisite: Master's degree or doctoral degree in an unrelated field. Submit all transcripts and thesis or dissertation with application.

How to Apply

The admissions process provides applicants with an opportunity to seriously consider their educational goals, ask questions and discuss expectations, policies and procedures.  Prospective students are encouraged to apply for admissions prior to enrolling in classes to take advantage of this exploratory process. However, George Wythe's Audit Policy does permit students to begin by auditing and later receive course credit if they apply for admissions during that semester.

Click the link above to begin the application process. We ask that you do this prior to requesting transcripts, letters of recommendation (and other materials that will be received by our office) so that we can match them with your application as they are received.

The admissions application requirements are listed below:

  1. Application Fee
Include in the mailing the $160 non-refundable application fee.

An application is not considered official without this fee accompanying the application form.

  3. Test Scores
Obtain test results for GRE, LSAT or Millers tests, if applicable.
  4. English Fluency (Applies to non-native English speakers only)
Please have TOEFL scores mailed directly to the office of Admissions.

In order to best serve those who are non-native English speakers, we require that applicants demonstrate a certain degree of English fluency using the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) administered by ETS.

Doctoral applicants must achieve a minimum score of 550 (TOEFL PBT), 213 (TOEFL CBT) or 80 (TOEFL iBT).

George Wythe does not offer remedial English proficiency courses.

  5. Letters of Recommendation
    Procure 2 Letters of Recommendation
    Letter of Recommendation Form

    Show Details >

These letters should be sent from someone who knows you and can attest to your character, work ethic, academic preparation, etc. They can be from associates/supervisors at work, a former teacher, someone you have served with in a community organization, an ecclesiastical leader, a business partner, etc. Letters from parents, spouses and family members are not appropriate.

Please have these letters sent directly to the Office of Admissions. Once you decide to apply, you should ask your potential writers for a recommendation as soon as possible. Often these individuals are busy and may need some follow-up for reminders. You may want to suggest a possible date for them to have it back to you. Waiting for these letters is often a cause for delay in submitting an application and missing deadlines, so you should act on them as a top priority.

  6. Resume or Vita
Prepare a detailed, current resume or curriculum vita.
  7. Personal Essay
Write an essay addressing the topic: “Statesmanship in the 21st Century.”
  8. Thesis or Dissertation if Applicable
If applicable obtain a copy of a previous PhD thesis or dissertation.
  9. Admissions Interview
During the online admissions process you will schedule an admissions interview.  The purpose of this interview is to to determine if George Wythe is a good fit for the candidate and vice versa.  It is an opportunity to assess an applicant's readiness, answer questions, set expectations, etc.
